PRAYER

Last Sunday was the Feast of the Assumption.

The Feast of the Assumption commemorates the glorification of Mary, chosen by God, to be the mother of Jesus the Christ. The feast acquired a special status as a feast of Mary when Pius XII in 1950 defined the assumption as a dogma of faith. On this feast we are encouraged to affirm our humanity and work to enhance the dignity of people as daughters and sons of God.

When we reflect on Mary’s life there were many challenges supported by Mary accepting God wholeheartedly into her life.

With this in mind and remembering the beauty of creation.  Please take time to click and read the Serenity Prayer.

The Assembly prayer last week was based on Saint Maximillian Kolbe. I led the Assembly and spoke about Maximillian’s amazing sacrifice and faith in God.  He believed in praying to Mary as did Blessed Edmund Rice.

THIS WEEK

This week is Science Week and next week is Book Week.  Please read Mrs Martin's section regarding Book Week. I hope the boys enjoyed listening to Dr Karl yesterday.  I found him very interesting and was amazed how quickly 90 minutes passed.  Today was screen free day where the boys were sent plans from their teachers with the activities centred around Science and Book Week.  The other focus for the afternoon was getting out and enjoying nature/exercise.

I hope you and your families are doing well.  If you have any concerns, please contact your son’s teacher or myself. I know I’m receiving a large number of emails every day so please be patient regarding reply times.

A THOUGHT TO PONDER

The Fable of the Donkey in the Hole:

Watch or read: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6_P9z_ZvHPQ

  • One day, a donkey fell into a pit. The animal cried and whined for hours while his owner tried to figure out what to do. Finally, the farmer decided that since the animal was old, and the pit needed to be covered up anyway, he'd just bury the old donkey right there. He got a shovel and started filling in the pit. The donkey kept up its wailing, but then fell silent. After an hour of furious shovelling, the farmer paused to rest. To his amazement, he saw his old donkey jump out of the pit and trot away!
  • At first, when the donkey realised what was happening, he cried even more piteously. But then the wise animal hit on a plan. As each spadeful of dirt hit his back, the donkey would shake it off and take a step up on the growing mound of earth. Eventually, the mound grew high enough for him to jump out of the pit.

REFLECTION

Life is going to shovel dirt on you, all kinds of dirt. The trick to getting out of the pit is to shake it off and take a step up. We can get out of the deepest pits by not stopping and never giving up. Just shake it off and take a step up.

Thanking you for your support.

Book Week Online Costume Parade. Term 3, Week 7 2021

This year our Book Week Parade will be online, and since many of us can't access shops to go costume shopping, I came up with a list of costume ideas that you can make from what you have at home. I'm sure there are many more ideas, but here is what I came up with.

Dress up in your favourite costume, take a photo and send your entry to your class teacher. A prize will be given to the best three in each class, then the finals …..three will be chosen for the overall winners of Book Week 2021.  The competition is open in Week 7, so get snapping for an awesome Book Week Prize.

Mrs Martin’s Book Trail: Marcus Rashford – You Are A Champion – How To Be The Best You Can Be! Written by Carl Anka

Unstoppable Manchester United star turns self-help guru for kids! “Believe in you” A great book to build/boost: self esteem, resilience, confidence, positive thinking, and much more. This book shows children how to dream big, practise hard and navigate adversity. As Marcus says in Chapter 3: “When you come up short in a challenge, it’s important not to give up and just stop there, but to look at what happened and think about how you could overcome a similar problem in the furure.” Wise words from an incredible role model during these difficult times.  If you haven’t already got this book make sure you grab your self one, you won't regret it! #mrsmartinsbooktrail2021
