Our Student Leaders 2022

This week has been an enormous week for our prospective Student Leaders of 2022.  Despite the fact that lockdowns have cast a shadow over our school year, both 2020 and 2021, we still had a committed group of students willing to put themselves forward for candidacy as Student Leaders for next year.

Before delivering their candidate speeches to the respective communities on zoom, the whole Year Level was reminded that leading during comfortable times can be the easy thing and that it is when things are difficult and there is uncertainty and worry, that we really call upon our Leaders to act with calm poise, confidence and an offering of a sense of hope. To this end it was fantastic to see our candidates put themselves forward and speak passionately about the given portfolio and about St. Peter's College generally. Following presentations, the Year 11 students and staff voted for their preferences in the positions of Social Justice Captain, Liturgy Captain, Environment Captain, Arts Captain and Sport captains. Voting for our College Captains at the Cranbourne Campus for 2022, was offered to all students from Years 7 to 11 and Campus staff. From this point, short-listing occurred and the candidates were given the opportunity to be interviewed by a panel that included the incumbent Student Captain as well as two members of the College Leadership team. This very formal process is a wonderful opportunity for our students to experience that which they will likely have to undergo when applying for jobs and courses following their time at St. Peter's College.

The final announcement about the Student Leadership Team for 2022 is scheduled to occur next week and in the meantime I would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank all of our wonderful Year 11 applicants.

As I have said in previous newsletters, Student Leadership plays a vital role at St. Peter's College and so we now look forward to the opportunity of electing our House Captains for each of our eight Houses. Students in either Year 10 or 11 can be nominated as a House Captain and applications have not yet closed so I would encourage students in Year 10 and 11 to consider what role they could play as a formal leader of the House to which they belong.

Our Student Leadership Team for 2022 will likely have a very big role to play in helping to lead us out of the uncertainty of these persistent lockdowns next year - a really important task but one that they will be supported in by the adults at the College.
