Athletics Carnival – Be In It

The theme was to “Be In It” and our students certainly did. Despite the showers throughout the day, students demonstrated outstanding participation, competitiveness, and house spirit. The demonstration of athletic ability and skill displayed in the competitive events was outstanding with many records broken. Students had a lot of fun at the participation events and earned many valuable points for their House. It was wonderful to see so many of our students volunteer as student helpers to assist our staff demonstrating care and service to our community.

A big congratulations to Hero HEAVEY and their House Leaders, Caitlin Jackson and Gerry Rambayon for taking out the overall House Champion! The Heavey students have broken a 19 year drought with their last Athletics Carnival win dated back in 2004. Well done Heavey! Your House implemented the winning formulae = you had all spaces filled in the competitive events and you had the maximum number of students at all the participation events.

However, it was Hutchinson House who brought the House spirit and won the War Cry competition at the beginning of day. Congratulations Hutchy!

Thank you to all our House and student leaders for their leadership and assistance throughout the day. You all did a marvellous job in preparing your House to “Be In It.”

A highlight for the day was the St Mary’s Gift Race, Congratulations Year 7 student Lazarus Khadka who won. Lazarus takes home bragging rights for 2023 and a $50 Gift voucher from Rebel Sports.

Another highlight of the day was the Teacher vs House Leader relay. It is my enormous pleasure to inform you that it was the Teachers who won this event. Better luck next year House Leaders!

Thank you to all staff for their assistance in the running of the Athletics Carnival. As well as thank you to our parents for attending and we hope you enjoyed the day.

Congratulations to our Age Champions and Students who broke records

CISSA Finals!

Wednesday 14th June

Congratulations to our winning CISSA teams

  • CISSA Netball – Premier Division
  • Boys Basketball - Division One

CISSA Netball Final – Premier Winners!

Congratulations to our netball team on their victory in the CISSA Netball Grand Final against St Monica's, with a final score of 32-24. Player of the Grand Final, Caitlin Jackson, displayed exceptional performance on the court and played a crucial role in securing the win. Grace Massingham, alongside Caitlin, showcased remarkable defensive skills in the circle. Lila Hodge had outstanding gameplay in the center position, controlling the flow of the game effectively. Jessica Haines and Ella Stevens, in the goal circle, produced excellent shooting and outperformed the opposing defense. Taylah Park at Wing Defense disrupted the opposition's attacking plays. Special mentions go to Erin Massingham and Zoe Stevens for playing out of position in the Center and Wing Attack positions respectively, contributing significantly to the victory. In the second half of the game, Lianne Mann stepped into the shooter's circle finding scoring opportunities for the team. Nelly Anu and Charlie McDonald moved into defense and had an immediate impact.

We would like to acknowledge Cecily Okena, who unfortunately couldn't play in the final due to injury, for her contributions throughout the season. Recognition goes to Georgie McKay, Charline Schere, and Charlotte Jonsen, who, despite being unable to play in the grand final, were integral members of the team throughout the season. The team also extends their gratitude to Hannah French for her role as team manager and scorer, supporting the team throughout the season.

CISSA Boys Basketball – Division One Winners

Our CISSA Boys Basketball team represented our College with pride and played really well against Redlynch State College. The boys demonstrated outstanding defence which was the key in a very close and competitive game. The final score being 40 – 37. A special mention to Ryley Adams who was awarded the Player of the Final. The College would like to thank and wish our departing year 12’s in the team all the best in their future endeavours. The Year 12’s showed great leadership throughout the season and set a great culture for future team members. Thank you, Gerry Rambayon, Aaron Overall, Keanu Geary and Regan O’Reilly.

CISSA Girls Touch Football

The CISSA Girls Touch Football final was an outstanding display of skill and ability and a very close and competitive game. With St Monica’s scoring the final try on the hooter to win 8 – 7 against St Mary’s. Our Girls Touch Football Coach, Bree Lo Grande reported that the team demonstration determination, grit and heart and she made the following mentions about each player:

  • Shameah Blanco-Enoch – her passion for the sport and her teammates is incredible.  She wore her heart on her sleeve, particularly in expressing how proud she was of her teammates at the end of the game.
  • Summer-Rose Phair – outstanding skill and ability in both attack and defence, and never stopped running or supporting teammates on the field.
  • Emma Pullar – amazing defensive efforts – chased from centre of the field and dove to make a touch on the winger who made a break as she was about to score.
  • Tia Demas – never stopped running or maintaining her smile throughout the game, even when she subbed off exhausted.
  • Piper Devine – left nothing in the tank and kept the talk up on and off the field, and never gave up in trying to find ways through the defence.
  • Shavinta Bann – broke through the defensive line and ran half the length of the field to score with 30 seconds to go, tying the game.
  • Kiana Williams – played on the far wing throughout the entire season and owned that position!  Scoring some amazing touch downs and stopping them as well.  She also moved in off of her wing when the girls in the middle of the field needed a break several times during the final.
  • Isabella Fairbairn & Aria Lavis – for playing touch football for the first time this year, they were amazing!  Showed courage in getting involved and stepping up in defence to make some great touches.
  • Averie Snoad – kept the energy levels and positivity high on the sideline as our chief manager and scorer.
  • Lara Lane – had a fantastic CISSA season, representing the College with pride and great skill in the games she played.  Absent for the grand final due to representing Peninsula at the U15 QSST’s.
  • Honourable mention to Tia Demas, Avery Snoad for their involvement in the JSS and CISSA competition since year 7.

CISSA Boys Touch Football

The Boys Touch Football final was a tense game where emotions ran high and so did the tries. Saints got an early lead which rattled our boys for the first half. However, at half time the team came together and got their heads in the game. At one point in the second half the score was level. Sadly, St Augustine’s got three more tries in the dying minutes of the final with a final score of 11 – 7.

A special mention to Ollie Van Rees for his leadership on and off the field and Lachlan Norcott for his hard work and complete focus throughout the game. And honourable mention to Ryan Edwards for his commitment to the JSS and CISSA competition from Year 7.

Extracurricular Sporting – Term 2

Club Netball – Undefeated Streak continues!

On Tuesday night St Mary’s played a great game against the Tigers. Our students stepped up and played their best even after a full day of Athletics. They did not tire and displayed great effort and attitude at all points of the game.

Next week will be our final game before we break for the school holidays. The season will resume in Term 3.

Rugby League – Winners!

For the first time in several years St Mary’s has had both our Year 9/10 and Year 11/12 Rugby League teams compete in a Semi Final. Sadly, both teams lost. The Year 9/10 were defeated by the top of the ladder team, Gordonvale State High School and Year 11/12 were defeated by Bentley Park. Our Year 9/10 boys demonstrated outstanding grit and determination given a number of students who were unable to play due to injury. A special mention to Josh Rolland, Ryley Reichardt and William Littleton for being consistent through the middle.

Our Year 11/12 boys continued to find strength in what we do best which is strong and consistent performance in the middle. However we could not compete with the speed of the Bentley Park wingers who were able to score.

A huge thank you to Mr Lee Slatcher and Mr Eddie Tutoe who coached and manager both teams.

TCS & Peninsula Trials

Parents/ carers will need to contact the College regarding any school absence due to students attending Peninsula trials which occur during school hours. TCS trials occur afterschool.

Students are reminded to collect signed Peninsula paperwork from the HPE staffroom to take to their TCS trials. Students will NOT be allowed to trial if they do not have this paperwork.

Students and their families are responsible for:

Logging onto the Student Portal to obtain:

  • TCS Calendar (this tells you when your trial is on)
  • Peninsula paperwork (complete, hand in & collect to take to trial)
  • Notice of Trial (This document is uploaded to TCS Sport app within two weeks of trial)
  • Follow the timelines outlined in the Peninsula Paperwork Process – See below:

Instructions on how to obtain access through the Student Portal have been provided each week at the end of this Bulletin – See below:

  1. Go to the TCS Sport tile in the Student Portal

  2. In the ‘Key Paperwork’ section print the ‘Notice of Trial’ information for your sport trial. These will be uploaded as soon as we receive them. If it is not there for your trial, check again soon or see the sport staff in the HOB staffroom.
