Year Two

Dear Year Two Families,

What an exciting time we have had in Year Two recently! Amongst all the excitement with our excursion we have still managed to fit a lot of learning in!

Reading

In reading students have been exploring different genres of texts. They have been able to identify realistic fiction, adventure texts as well as different styles of poetry.

Writing

In Writing the Grade 2 students have been learning about Persuasive texts. This week students focused on the differences between high and low modality words to support them in writing their persuasive texts. The students were so engaged in these activities! Some common high modality words that students came up with were; 'obviously, definitely and must'.  The students are very excited to create their very own persuasive texts in the next coming weeks.

Maths

In Maths students have been exploring Location and Transformations where they explored mapping and locating places and objects on a map and grid. The Grade 2 students were so engaged in this unit. The students also were introduced to a new unit 'Data and Representation and Interpretation'. The students instigated and produced their own data displays such as tables, picture graphs and bar graphs. The students were so involved in this unit! The students are eager to continue exploring this unit.

Inquiry /Excursion:

Students were exploring our new Inquiry unit of Sharing the Planet. The students have been exploring our local surroundings in Point Cook. On Friday 9th June, the students had their Bus Excursion where they explored some local sites around us! Some included: Crocodile Park, Point Cook Homestead, Alamanda Wetlands, Werribee South Beach, and finally we finished up at SPRINKLES! The students enjoyed filling in their excursion booklets and ticking off what local sites they saw!

Reminders

  • Last day of term is Friday the 23rd of June, school returns on Monday the 10th of July
  • Please ensure your child is bringing their iPad to school each day and that it is charged and ready to go. We regularly use the iPads to support students with their learning and it can be challenging with many students not having iPads.
