Prep

Dear Prep families,

It is hard to believe that we find ourselves at the end of Semester One already! The preps have been so busy throughout Term Two and it is wonderful to reflect on all of the growth they have made, both as learners and individuals.

Assembly Performance

The Prep teachers were blown away by the courage our students demonstrated during the Assembly performance in Week Seven. They showcased their communication skills and were definitely risk takers when speaking in front of our school.

Reading

In Reading, the preps have continued exploring procedural texts, identifying the important features and using the Good Reader strategies to help them solve unfamiliar words. We have also been investigating Text-to-Self connections, encouraging students to relate the text back to themselves, while identifying and recalling personal connections to the text.

Some guiding questions that could be used to continue exploring this comprehension strategy at home are:

  • Does this story remind you of something you have seen or heard before?
  • Has something that happened in the story, happened to you before?
  • Have you ever felt like the character did in the story?
  • If you were the character in the story, what would you do differently? Why?

Writing

In Writing, the students have continued to explore procedural texts. They have been working to develop their understanding of the important features and using this knowledge to construct their own texts. Alongside this, we have been learning about the 'Zones of Regulation' and identifying strategies that we as individuals can use to help manage our emotions. The preps all wrote their own procedural text, titled, ‘How to get in the Green Zone’, and it was fantastic to see their understanding develop of procedural texts.

Mathematics

In Mathematics, we have begun exploring a new concept of addition within Number and Algebra. The students have continued to be open-minded when exploring open-ended problems, focusing less on the answer, and more on the different strategies we can use to solve problems. It has been wonderful to see the students practising the skills they have learnt throughout the semester, when using their knowledge to solve problems and think mathematically.
