Year Seven

Wood Technology

Over the course of the Term, Year Seven Students have been busy working their way through the various stages of the Design Cycle and creating their designed solution the “Cerberus Lamp”. Students were provided a design brief which outlined the need for the lamp, some constraints and considerations when building the lamp, and other background information to build the solution.

With this information, they then began using their knowledge of Safe Operating Procedures of various hand tools to create their lamp.

In the remaining weeks of the Term, Year Seven's will complete their lamp and evaluate their progress in order to identify their strengths and areas of improvement if they were to complete the project again.

Mathematics

Over the last month, Year Seven Students have delved into the world of measurement and made great progress in their mathematical journey. Our students started their measurement journey by exploring and converting the different units of measurement. Through hands-on activities and practical exercises, they gained the ability to measure objects accurately using appropriate tools. They defined perimeters and discovered the distance around the outside of basic geometric shapes, including squares, rectangles, triangles, parallelograms and polygons. Students also find the areas of shapes by determining the space inside shapes. They tackled compound shapes by breaking them down into smaller shapes and adding their areas together. After that, they gave rises to three-dimensional solids and calculated the volume of rectangular prisms. Their enthusiasm for this topic shone through as they eagerly solved problems and even applied their knowledge to real-world scenarios.

Throughout the last few weeks, we have moved onto fractions. Students grasped the fundamentals of equivalent fractions, understanding that different fractions can represent the same part of a whole. They confidently added and subtracted fractions, finding common denominators and simplifying their answers. They multiplied fractions by whole numbers, recognising that fractions can also represent parts of a group.

For the next following weeks, students will keep applying these mathematical concepts to solve problems from their everyday life and continue to explore the wonders of mathematics.

Spanish

Year Seven students have been consolidating their Spanish skills and knowledge of expressing likes and dislikes by exploring different topics using the verb 'gustar (to please)'. Students have been introduced how to use '¿Por qué?' (why?) and porque (because) to ask and justify for the reasons why they like or dislike something. They also explored some similar expressions with 'me gusta' (I like) such as 'me encanta' (I love) and 'me interesa' (I am interested in). We also explored some topics such as school subjects and food that allows the students to use their language skills to create their own sentences  and express their likes and dislikes related to these topics. Lastly, we talked about how to express agreements and disagreements to other people's opinions. In the last fortnight, the Year Seven Students will do their Term Two final assessment task, and learn about the hispanic culture - the Spanish Civil War.

Humanities

Term Two is rapidly drawing to a close. Our Students have been working exceptionally hard to review their knowledge and undertake a mini research project in an area of their choice they wish to learn more about from the ancient Australian civilisation. Here's a quick recap from students in 7B of their term.
