Year Four

Dear Year Four families,

What a tremendous term it has been filled with learning, all the students have shown that they are resilient, adaptable and balanced as the term is coming to an end.

Unit of Inquiry

With much excitement we are wrapping up our third unit of inquiry with the central idea of ‘Media is a powerful tool that can influence thinking about healthy messages’ The lines of inquiry:

  • Healthy messages.
  • promotion and interpretation of health messages in media.
  • Impact of health messages

Reading

During reading Year Four students have been exploring Non-Fiction texts including their features, key information and how to locate the main idea. Students have been finding out a range of new interesting facts and recognising the structure. We looked at the best ways to summarise both fictional and nonfictional literature. Students are now aware that you must write a summary of a nonfiction text in your own words while including key elements. The Year Four students have been conducting their own research into the promotion of a health message of their choice as our unit of inquiry draws to a close. They are then incorporating their research into note-taking utilising the Cornell note-taking method.

Writing

Students have continued to hone their note-taking and research techniques in Writing, recording and organising their facts to generate their information texts. To go along with their text, they have also  created their diagrams and labels. Students have enjoyed using their preferred media to publish their texts promoting healthy lifestyle choices.

Mathematics

Since the students have finished their Time unit, they deserve congratulations. We've started a brand-new unit that focuses on Shape. Students have had a lot of fun using nets to compare and contrast 2D and 3D shapes during the subject on shape. The portions of regular and irregular shapes have been contrasted by the students.
