Italian

Grade 3 and 4 Students

Throughout this semester, both Grade 3 and 4 students have been working on the same topic; il mercato - the market.  However, Grade 4 students have had a slight modification to their program so that they use various technology applications ie: Italian Google Classroom and Minecraft. Grade 4 students have recorded their work using Beep or Screencastify, whereas Grade 3 students have been doing more practise through role plays and performing to their class.

All of these students have learned the names of classroom items,  fruits and vegetables in singular form to insert these nouns into a simplified phrase.  This phrase allows students to use their prior knowledge to add general conversation and build it into a script that resembles a real-life situation. Grade 3 students have consistently demonstrated their skills into mini role plays using dress-ups in the classroom. As a market stall person, students have learnt how to address a customer using a few simple phrases ie Desidera? Cosa ti piacerebbe? Students have also been learning as a customer to order by the kilo or kilos and calculate a price and total cost using Italian currency.

Grade 3 and 4 have continued to work on general conversation, number knowledge, Italian money Euro. Students now know the Australian dollar uses a (.) decimal point, whereas Euro uses a (,) comma to separate coins and notes.

All students continue to revise the alphabet particularly the 5 vowel sounds. Grade 3 students have  integrated conversational knowledge into role plays based on real-life situations, when ordering and purchasing fruit and vegetables at a market.  Simple phrases used are:  Posso avere … per favore?  Can I please have …. ? Vorrei ….per favore.  I would like  …….please.
