Grade Four

This term, the Grade 4 students were lucky enough to meet author/illustrator George Ivanoff! George spoke to the students about where he gets his ideas, how he plans his ‘choose your own adventure’ novels and how he sketches some of his ideas in his notebook for upcoming stories. Students loved meeting George and getting his autograph on their newly purchased books! It has been pleasing to see students take inspiration from this visit and approach their writing projects with a renewed enthusiasm!

In Maths students have completed a unit based around Active April. Students had the opportunity to explore data collected from their own Active April laps and compared personal and class results, representing the data on graphs. Students then developed survey questions, around a topic of their choice, and collected data. They graphed their information using technology and represented it in a graph of their choice. Fractions and decimals have also been a focus unit this term. Students are developing their understanding of equivalent fractions, converting between common fractions and decimals and representing those on number lines. Currently, students are working on developing their understanding of time. They have been learning about the difference between am and pm, working out the duration of times between events and representing times using 12-hour clock and 24-hour clock.

In Integrated, we have continued looking at the concept of Social Justice. Students have been working in small groups on a Kindness Campaign. The students have created videos on Canva promoting different ways to show kindness at home, while at school and to the wider community. There will be videos selected from each grade and these will be presented to our school community at the beginning of term 3. Stay tuned!
