Grade Three
It’s hard to believe it’s almost the end of term two . Students have been working so hard. We have been impressed with the maturity and growth across all of the grades. It’s been an action packed term with lots of fun while we learn.
English
So far this term, we have focused on narrative and recounts. We also explored the text type of biographies. Each class has had fun completing a weekly Writers Workshop session. During the sessions students have developed their individual writer’s notebooks. We have had lots of opportunities to publish our writing, and begin to build our writers gift folios.
Each day students are continuing to participate in independent and partner reading. We have explored lots of text types and worked hard to develop our ability to infer when we comprehend.
We have been working hard to become more veracious when we read and increase our fluency. During week five, it was National Simultaneous Reading day. We listened to the Speedy Sloth story and explored sloths in general. It was another fun week where we learned lots of information in our reading and writing sessions.
Mathematics
We have had a sensational term in the area of mathematics. We started the term with a unit focused around the Mario Kart movies. Our students were able to design race tracks and learn all about grid references. We also made carts where we were able to learn more about measurement. Our final activity was a Mario Kart race which was so much fun. It really was a fantastic way to learn more about maths. We have continued learning our multiplication tables with a large focus on mental computation and becoming more automatic in our responses.
Integrated
This term our overall focus has been social justice. It has been very interesting to explore diversity. We have also discovered ways to be more inclusive and cater for individuals who may have additional needs. We spent some time looking at rules and laws.
The children were extremely curious and eager to learn.
Overall we have had another fantastic term. The teachers are extremely proud of the growth, attitude and work ethic of our students. We look forward to next term!
Have a great break,
The grade 3 teachers.
