GAT and EXAMS

Thursday 15th June, 238 of our Year 11 and 12 students braved ‘The GAT ’(General Achievement Test), the first of the official VCE exams for 2023. It’s a full day affair. Section A tests students' literacy and numeracy against national standards. Section B tests their ability to argue a point persuasively and to decode information presented in an unfamiliar form. The results are used as an ‘insurance policy’ for students who are unable to complete their end of year exams.

This year all students were asked to present a point of view on the relationship between talent and effort, with some reporting that they wrote about how a capitalist society assigns value to some talents, but not all, and others saying that they discussed gender equality and the relationship between ‘seen’ and ‘unseen’ work. If you have a VCE student at home, you could ask them what they wrote about, and we have attached a few multiple-choice questions for your interest and amusement.
