GTAC - Design Thinking for Prosthesis

Students from 8C were invited to join the Gene Technology Access Centre (GTAC) Biomimicry Innovators club to explore biomechanics and design a prosthesis to meet the needs of an amputee.

The workshop enhances students’ studies in both Science and Digital Technologies, with students gaining valuable insights into evolving medical technology. Our students were lucky to be able to draw on the expertise of  University of Melbourne PhD students as they explored design in nature and how it could be applied to the design and construction of their robotic arms.

The students were particularly impressed with the electromyogram sensors (muscular control) of their devices.
