Principal's Report

Term 2 has absolutely flown by but with so much happening around the school, that is probably not surprising. I have really enjoyed spending time with all of the staff and students at Thornbury this term and having the opportunity to work with such a dynamic community. I can confirm that my position as Acting Principal has been extended until the end of Term 3, by which time the ongoing, substantive role will be filled and ready to commence in Term 4.

The second half of Term 2 has been all about assessment and reporting. Our Year 10 and 11 exams were a big success, with students getting the opportunity to review and revisit their learning for the semester. We have also completed the General Achievement Test (GAT) for all students enrolled in a Unit 3 – 4 Course. It should be noted that the 9/10 and VCE Teams have put in an enormous amount of work to make these exams run as well and as seamlessly as they did. Year 10 work experience is also happening this week, another form of learning that can be of great benefit to our students.

Our community opening for the STEAM centre was a great success, supported by our community connection committee members and our wonderful students. I really enjoyed having a chance to meet so many of the people who helped to make the new building a reality. It was great to have Michael Keenan join us and have the opportunity to thank him for his great contribution to the school.

In week 6 we celebrated Reconciliation Week with a series of events throughout the week, culminating in a bake sale and fundraising lunch which raised over $1000 for VACCA to support indigenous youth. Congratulations to all of the students and staff involved.

I wish all of you a good term break and look forward to working with you all again in Term 3.

All the best,

Adam Cribbes

Acting Principal
