Green Team update

Thornbury High’s Green Team has been working hard all semester to keep our school composting running smoothly. We’ve also been educating the school community about composting and proper recycling at the school. We have paper recycling bins in all our classrooms and mixed recycling bins in the corridors for paper, plastic and metal.

Here’s a reminder of what can be composted at school:

Next term, we’ll be holding our second annual clothing swap. We’ve been busy sorting through the remaining clothes from last year’s swap; some have been kept for our clothing swap in Term 3 and some have been donated to the Remote Op Shop Project - an initiative which supports the development of independent op shops in remote Aboriginal communities. To find out more about the Remote Op Shop project, please visit their website: http://www.remoteopshopproject.org/

The remaining clothes that aren’t fit for donation or re-wear have been taken to H&M Northland where they will be recycled into textile fibres and insulation. This also reduces the amount of clothing going to landfill. Check out their website for more information: https://www2.hm.com/en_us/sustainability-at-hm/our-work/close-the-loop.html

Keep an eye out for more info on our clothes swap in Term 3. Students will have the opportunity to bring in a preloved clothing item that’s in good condition to swap, or to purchase clothes for a gold coin.
