Principal's Report

By Carolyn Serpell

Welcome back to another term!  We have all enjoyed a great start to the term, which has been made even better by the return of some sunshine!

This week, we welcomed Charlotte Burns to our teaching team.  Charlotte will be teaching in the 5/6 area, through until the end of the year, while Melanie heads off on maternity leave, from next week.  There is no doubt that Mel will be greatly missed, but hope that she will be a regular visitor for morning tea!  Our best wishes to both Mel and Tim for this next exciting stage of their lives!

Tomorrow, students in Years 4-6 will head to Wodonga for the annual Winter Sports.  Students will be participating in their nominated sport of netball, volleyball, soccer or football.  Due to the recent wet conditions, all students are asked to please bring a change of clothes and footwear, as well as a water-proof coat and a plastic bag for wet gear. They will also need to bring their lunch and plenty of snacks and water for the day.  Limited canteen facilities will be available if students would like to access this.  Please note that unless students have been provided with a sports shirt, they will need to wear their school shirt.  All students playing football should wear a mouth guard.  Please ensure your child arrives at school by 8.30 am as the bus will need to leave promptly.

Many thanks to everyone who supported our Jump Rope for Heart 'Jump Off' and fundraising efforts last term and a big thank you to Steph for all her organisation.  We were really impressed by our students' participation and enthusiasm, despite the weather, and were also very appreciative to have so many families attending, to support our students.   In total, $5477  was raised to support the Heart Foundation's research efforts.

During the holidays, work was completed to replace the roof of the admin & 5/6 building, and to restore the ceilings.  Drainage issues and restumping works were also addressed in both this and the early years buildings, which involved replacement of the path behind the early years building.  Due to delays with weather, minor restoration work to the roof of the early years building is still to be undertaken.

The Dental Van will be visiting again, later this year.  Consent forms have been sent home this week.  Please return these by next Friday, the 21st July.  Additional forms can be collected from classroom teachers or the office.

A free parent session, 'Strengthening Children and Teens Against Anxiety' will be held at the Wodonga Senior Secondary College on Tuesday 18th July.  Registration details and further information can be found in the community notices.
