Year 10 Subject Selection
At the start of Term 3, Year 10 students will submit their subject choices for Year 11 and 12. SCHS offers both the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) or International Baccalaureate (IB). Subject selection information can be found on the SCHS Careers Website. To assist students to make their choices, we are running a Student Subject Expo and Parent/Guardian Subject Expo Evening, and Course Counselling. Event details will be posted on the Compass Newsfeed. Parents/Guardians are encouraged to discuss subject options at home during the upcoming school holidays in the leadup to these events.
Subject Selection Events:
- Student Subject Expo: Wednesday 19 July
- Parent/Guardian Subject Expo Evening: Wednesday 19 July
- Year 10 Course Counselling Day: Tuesday 25 July
- Year 10 Subject Selection Forms Due: Friday 28 July
Core Subject Selection Principles:
Students should choose subjects:
- Related to topics they enjoyed in Year 9 and 10
- Based on their academic strengths
- Focusing on the topics they will learn and the skills they will develop, rather than what marks they could achieve
- That provide pathways to university and careers that match their interests (see the Prerequisites Guide)
Students should not choose subjects:
- That they have struggled with during Year 9 and 10. VCE and IB builds on Year 9 and 10 knowledge and skills
- Because of scaling. Scaling evens out the results of each subject (see the ATAR Calculation Guide)
- Solely because they are prerequisites
