Acting Principal's Report

Dear Suzanne Cory Community,

Term 2 has passed by in a flash, and now that we have reached the term break, it’s a perfect opportunity to reflect on the achievements of the past 9 weeks. While it would be remiss of me to deny there are a multitude of events, activities, and occasions that are worthy of celebrating, my space here is short and so I am only going to highlight a few that have impacted me personally.

House Chorals

What a proud moment for me, to be invited to judge the 2023 House Chorals competition. That pride quickly turned to fear as I realised the stakes involved and the high calibre of technical skills I was presented with. To be a part of something so grand was a truly wonderful experience and while the performances were amazing, it was the house spirit and camaraderie that really made me proud on the day. I commend all students on their participation, from the mass singers to the group performances, from the soloists to the conductors. An extra-large congratulations to Cottrell house, who were just too good on the day and walked away the winners. I’m already looking forward to the 2024 event.

LOTE Week

This week we celebrated LOTE Week which allowed us to highlight our cultural diversity. At SCHS we pride ourselves on this diversity, it is a key part of who we are, and to see it celebrated through dance, song, dress, and cultural rituals is heart-warming. The pride with which students talk about their backgrounds and willingly share tokens and tales to educate others and to celebrate together is a true reflection of a culturally proud environment.

Fundraising

The students here at SCHS are doing their best to be global citizens. They have strong morale compasses and are constantly looking around to find injustices in the world and ways to make positive change. This often sees them coming up with initiatives to drive change. Whether it’s monetary fundraising for causes such as the Indigenous Literacy Foundation or drives to collect warm items for refugees doing it rough, our students show that they care. Beyond caring though, they step up, they take initiative, and they think of ways to make a difference. For those of you that have reached into your pockets, your wardrobes, your linen cupboards, we thank you. We thank you for helping your children to make a difference in this world around them.

Tonight, we have our Year 12 Formal. The planning and preparation that has gone into this event has been huge. The students are very excited and I’m looking forward to being a part of the evening, where they can let their hair down, put away their books and enjoy some wonderful company. I’d like to thank Darcy Mulcahy and the SRC for all their efforts in organising this event.

We wish staff, students, and families all the best for the Term 2 break. Whether you are heading away to visit friends and/or family, or you are staying home and warm we hope you stay safe, enjoy some down time, and come back refreshed and ready to tackle the term ahead.

Term 3 resumes on Monday July 10th. We look forward to seeing you all then.

Warm Regards,
