camps, sports and excursion fund

The Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund (CSEF) provides payments for eligible students to attend activities like:

  • school camps or trips
  • swimming and school-organised sport programs
  • outdoor education programs
  • excursions and incursions.

Payments amounts for 2020 are $125 per year for eligible primary school students

Parents/carers wishing to apply for CSEF payments for 2020 must submit their application form to the relevant school before the last day of term 2.

However, a parent/carer will only be required to submit an application form to the school in the following circumstances:

  • the parent/carer is applying for the CSEF payment for the first time – i.e. an application form was not lodged with the school in the previous year;
  • or circumstances have changed – e.g. there has been a change in the care arrangement of the student, a change of name or CRN, or a new sibling has commenced at the school and the parent/carer wishes to apply for the CSEF payment for the new sibling also.

Who can apply?

Families holding a valid means-tested concession card or temporary foster parents are eligible to apply.

Please return signed forms along with a copy of your concession card via email to brunswick.nw.ps@edumail.vic.gov.au or drop into the school as soon as possible.

premier's reading challenge

The 2020 Victorian Premier’s Reading Challenge is now open. The Challenge encourages children to read a set number of books between now and September and record their efforts online.

How many books do children need to read?

Foundation and Junior students need to read 30 books, with at least 20 of them from the Challenge book list.

Middle and Senior students need to read 15 books, with at least 10 of them from the Challenge book list.

Please note, due to current circumstances and uncertainty as to when we will be returning to school, we are asking any students who are interested in participating to register as Home Based Readers.  You can do this by following this link: https://vprc.eduweb.vic.gov.au/home

Although the Challenge will look a little different this year, we look forward to acknowledging any students who participate and complete it at a Community Assembly later this year.

If you are interested and would like additional information or support to get started, please feel free to contact us.

Thanks.

remote learning for DR

Remote learning in DR has been quite the rollercoaster!

We have spent the first few weeks finding our rhythm and learning some organisational techniques to keep us going while we are away from the usual school environment.

Each day we get together on our morning post responding to a question of the day.

This week we learnt each other’s favourite seasons, we had quite a variety of responses!

  • “I like summer because it's my birthday and its x-mas! otherwise, winter”
  • “winter we get to stay inside and get warm”
  • “good morning!!! mine's probably spring because it's not too hot and it's not too cold (and it's my B'day)”
  • “autumn cuz there's my b-day, my dad's b-day, easter, you get to jump in puddles of leaves, it's cold so I can wear my jumper.”

It is a great way for us to try to replicate the numerous chats that happen in a classroom situation – it is my favourite part of the day!

This week we have had the opportunity to access an online version of our Unique You Puberty Unit created by Body Safety Australia – it has been a great way for us to be able to access, and facilitate these conversations at home.

Edie has created a very funny comic exploring a change that happens to our bodies during puberty!

Aila has also created a wonderful resource that she has kindly offered to share with the school community, which includes some useful strategies to help us stay calm in isolation. Thanks Aila!

remote learning for foundies

Hello Remote Learning Superstars both big and little!

I can’t believe the incredible work that not only my own FK warriors are doing, but throughout the whole school! This week the Foundies engaged in some play based learning. First, we read a book about a cardboard box and the infinite possibilities which such a simple object inspires. We then got our own box, or recycled materials, and made whatever our heart desired! After this we wrote about what our creation can do. Through this work I saw incredible creativity, problem solving, uniqueness and bucket loads of fun! Also I made a rocket, which is always a plus. There were also trains, Spooky Space Things, a car called the Flash Dash Lightning Bolt, and someone/thing called Jake.

If you look closely enough, there are learning opportunities everywhere!

If you are looking for more ways to support your Superstars at home, have we got something to tell you!

This week we are launching our Wellbeing@BNW blog!

This space will be a way for the Wellbeing team to sort through the mountains of information available to families and filter it to align with our community, and our current wellbeing practices at BNWPS.

We will have a space to collate the resources for you to be able to access at a time that suits you and your family.

We hope this space will be responsive to what our community needs so please let us know in the comments what you want or need from the Wellbeing Team.

See you in the blogosphere!

juniors say thanks

Last term, our Junior School students wrote thank you cards and letters of kindness to healthcare workers across the state. The students, teachers and school have received so much positive feedback about these letters and how they have lifted the spirits of people working on the front line, we have been quite amazed.

One healthcare worker from John Fawkner Hospital has shared this video/music clip with our school, as it includes images of our students' cards and notes! A little act of kindness can go a very long way.

maths

Hi BNWPS families,

This week I have put together a maths glossary with all the maths terms we use at BNWPS. If there is a word missing, please comment on the blog post and we can add it in.

Happy reading! http://bnwps.global2.vic.edu.au/category/maths/
