Class of the week: Prep S

Spelling

Term 2 has been an exciting one for Prep S, we have immersed ourselves in new learning by using many hands on activities. The students are really enjoying the SMART spelling approach adopted by SJV and are enthusiastic to learn the new word of the week every Monday morning. We focus on the meaning of words to expand vocabulary and then break words into syllables, sounds and letter patterns.

Our focus word JAM: Bread with jam and butter, delicious!

Our focus word HAND: We used shaving cream on tables so students could write words and draw pictures, great for fine motor and sensory skills too!

Our focus word BED: We gave the students coloured icing sugar, tiny teddies and biscuits to make teddies in bed, these were a hit!

Inquiry and Religious Education

The students are thoroughly enjoying our Inquiry topic "I Change, We change, the World Changes." Our focus has been through the world of science and exploring the life cycles of ourselves and many different animals. This topic has lent itself nicely to our Religious Education focus of the 7 days of creation and how we can be active citizens of our community to help preserve our natural world.

The Prep students can't wait to go on their first excursion on Monday 17th June. They are heading to the Werribee Zoo where they will explore the natural world and the life cycles of animals!

Maths

As part of our shape unit the students made pictures out of shape blocks and used various materials to show a 3-sided, 4 sided and 5 sided shape!
