STEM News
On Thursday 1st and Friday 2nd of March, Fiona, Bec, Hayley and Mark attended Professional Learning ‘Building Capabilities with STEM Skills and Dispositions.’ Thursday was held at the National Gallery of Victoria, where we had the opportunity to look and learn about many different designs. We also learnt about integrating art into STEM, particularly using tools such as Spheros, Makey Makeys and Scratch to create artworks.
Triennial at the National Gallery of Victoria is on until April 15th and entry is free. We strongly recommend taking your children to see this collection. Below are photos of some of our favourite pieces.

Although we have many ideas of what we can do with the students at school there are also some things you can do at home;
Recycle & reuse household items to create artwork (discuss how recycling helps our environment - science)
Create art using paint and straws; blob some paint onto a piece of paper and use a straw to blow the paint around (discuss how wind/our breath is a force that can move light objects and what happens when colours are mixed or overlapped - science)
In Hayley’s learning group the students used the BeeBots to create a picture. The students were given the instruction of “make your beebot draw.” The students had to problem solve, work with others in a respectful way, sharing ideas, mathematical reasoning, listening and creative thinking. The students loved this activity and were able to explain what they were doing to others around them.
