Middle Unit

Years 1 and 2 News..

Wow, it has been a very busy few weeks for the middle unit.

A few highlights include:

Tabloid Sports Day

Students joined their sport houses for the day and enjoyed activities such as a gumboot throw, sack races, dress up race, laser walk and many more team building games. The students really loved spending time with students from older grades and wearing their house colours with pride.

Singing at Assembly

Both MU5 and MU2 performed for the whole school and some families. They did a fantastic job and with the help of music teacher Mr Roby, sang their hearts out.

Power outage last Thursday

As we all remember, last week was particularly eventful when the power went out during the very hot and windy storm on the 21st of November. Luckily we were able to have an indoor lunchtime due to high winds but it was very surprising when the power went out. Students and teachers were reminded how much we rely on electricity including marking the rolls with the internet, using desktop computers, writing reports on Compass, using the lights and fans. What an interesting reminder to be grateful for what we have. See the pictures below of MU2 trying to light up the classroom with battery operated candles and lights.

Cricket Clinic

On Monday this week all grade 1/2 classes participated in a 50 minute cricket skills session with Matt from Cricket Victoria. They practised skills including catching, catching as a wicket keeper, bowling and batting. All students gave it their best and enjoyed being on the oval.

End of year count down

With only three and a bit weeks left of the school year, the MU teachers and students are busy reviewing all the topics from the year, staying engaged and completing assessment for reports and handover for next year. Here is a gentle reminder to students to be patient, kind and look after yourselves, teachers and your families during this exhausting time of the year.

Year 3 / 4 News...

Lots of exciting events in Grade 3 this past few weeks!

MU6 have created a Christmas Wreath for the Woodend Community Christmas Tree on behalf of Woodend Primary School. We love the creativity with each student posing as a different Christmas decoration! Congratulations to MU6 and Miss Geer, it looks amazing! The Community Christmas Tree will be unveiled tonight at the Twilight Night.

We saw some wonderful sportsmanship on Tabloid sports day. We are constantly impressed by the Year 3’s attitude towards what we do at school. We are proud teachers!

As part of Science this week we have made shadow clocks! We selected a stick in the yard and then traced around the shadow at different times of the day. We learnt that shadows move in an anticlockwise direction and that the closer to the middle of the day, the shorter the shadow. The shadow is longer at the start and the end of the day.

Thank you to all those students who participated in “Mo Day” yesterday and donated money. You all looked wonderful!
