Middle Unit

Years 2 News..

The Year 2's have been going deep with their learning this term. In literacy they have been learning about reading strategies such as Making Connections and Inferring. Connections have been made with the fabulous book ‘My Two Blankets’ by Irena Kobald and the Integrated Unit ‘Cultural diversity in our community’. Through this unit, students have also learnt about Chinese new year, Harmony day and Naidoc Week. In science, students have been watching mealworms grow and transform while learning about metamorphosis. They have been in charge of creating a small habitat and feeding their worms. In Maths, they have been practising and extending their knowledge of number patterns, practising counting forwards and backwards from various numbers using various patterns. They have also been exploring measurement. In particular, students have been learning about length. They have been using informal units to measure and compare the lengths of different objects. The photos attached show them using streamers that were measured against themselves to compare objects in the playground.

Year 3 News..

What a wonderful start we have had this year! We welcomed Miss Lawrence to Woodend Primary as our new Year 3 Team Leader and have enjoyed meeting all the students as they settle into their new grades.

This term the Year 3 students have started rotations. Each week the students will have a Science session with Ms Spiers, a Values/Respectful Relationships session with Miss Lawrence and Computer Skills with Miss Geer. This has been a wonderful chance for the teachers to work with and get to know all students in Year 3.

Each night the Year 3 students are expected to practise their spelling words and read. Students need to return their spelling book each Friday ready for their test (or keep it in their reader bag to practise each night with their nightly reader).

This week Ms Spiers wowed the students with her ‘Melting Moments’ session. Below you can see the students enjoying their experiment.

Miss Geer has been teaching the students how to use the netbooks safely. Below you can see the student’s exploring the Soundwaves Online activities and BBC Dancemat touch typing program.

Miss Lawrence has been discussing our School Values and below you can see the amazing work the students have created.
