Assistant Principal's Report

Building Works

Our new administration building was completed two weeks ago and works started on converting the old administration into the Library. This weekend on November 24th and 25th there will be significant works taking place including Independent Class A asbestos removers removing asbestos from the eaves in the B-Wing. Therefore, there is to be no access to the College for the entirety of the weekend. Occupational Hygienists will issue a clearance certificate (including air clearance monitoring) to ensure that the school will be safe for students and staff to return Monday morning.

Please be mindful that anyone that enters the College grounds this weekend will be asked to leave immediately.

Splash Factory swimmers can access the pool but cannot park on school grounds.

Exams

At this time of year our school is a hive of activity. Our students from year 8 to 12 have been busily engaged in either completing, revising or planning for exams. For many of our students this is a chance for them to demonstrate their understanding and knowledge after a studious year of learning. During this time anxiety levels can be high and so we wanted to share some top tips for managing during exam time.

  1. Preparation is key – Make time in your schedule to ensure you have adequate resources for your exam. Notes, pens, calculators, water bottle. Having these items ready and available can help to settle you prior to the exam.
  2. Focus on what you DO know – you can’t magically build knowledge in the exam so for a start focus on the elements you know you can do well. Execute these parts and then start to attempt the questions which are more challenging.
  3. Seek and act on feedback – leading into the exams talk to your teacher about how you can get better and areas to focus on for development. They will be able to give you tools, tips and techniques to help you with exams.

Most importantly try your best, if you attack the exams with a willingness to try your best and an understanding that it is an opportunity for growth and development then you will get the most out of them, and build a skill base to help you in the future.

(Year 8-10 exams take place from the 30th of November to the 5th of December)

Positive Psychology – “Kindness is Magic”

When was the last time you went out of your way to do something nice for someone else, with no expectation of something in return? One of the key elements of happiness is regularly thinking of others and doing kind things. We have had a focus in tutorial lately around the idea of random acts of kindness. As a community when we share complete these random acts, we make others feel better, creating a ripple effect of happiness. So we encourage you to do something selfless and make someone else’s day better. You may even find yourself smiling a little bit more. Remember kindness is magic.
