Rookie Band Debut Concert

On Tuesday of last week the instrumental music department placed the new Rookie Band on public display. This is the second year we have held a Rookie Band concert and I saw again, as I saw last year how proud the children on stage were, and how incredibly proud the parents in the audience were of their children. These students have made amazing progress in just a few short weeks and we all look forward with anticipation to their next public performance at the Work in Progress concert. Thank you to all parents and family members for attending the concert last week and thanks to Amanda Morrison for coordinating the music program and for arranging the evening. Thank you also to our dedicated, talented and enthusiastic instrumental music teachers for the passionate way you teach and inspire our students.

Open Night

A reminder that on Wednesday May 1st our annual Open Night will be held. The evening will commence in the Ion Whykes Theatre at 7.00pm with an overview of our school and in particular the programs within the junior years. May I ask again that you mention the evening to any of your contacts who may have current Grade Five or Six students. We welcome the opportunity to speak with as many people as possible about our school.

NAPLAN

Students in Years three, five, seven and nine will sit their National Assessment Program –

Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) tests on May 14-16.

NAPLAN does not test knowledge of specific content. Rather it tests the ability of students in those year levels across the nation in basic reading, writing and mathematics skills.

It is not recommended that students prepare excessively for the tests and NAPLAN’s official website recommends parents treat the tests as any other on the school calendar.

The best way you can help your child prepare for NAPLAN is to reassure them that NAPLAN tests are just one part of their school program, and to urge them to simply do the best they can on the day.

Student Opinion

The annual Student Attitudes to School Survey will be conducted early in term two, during the period Monday April 29- Friday June 7, providing another opportunity to capture and respond to student reflections about their learning at Healesville High School. Further details will be provided to students and parents prior to the survey being completed.

For all those interested, copies of the 2018 Annual Report and 2019 Annual Implementation Plan are available on the school website.

Best wishes to all for a safe and enjoyable Easter break.
