Secondary 9/10 Learning

Welcome

We would like to extend a big welcome to all of the new students, including our Year 9s, and their families as they join our section. The Secondary 9/10 team are very excited to be back at school and getting to know our new students for 2018.

Maths and English

Our normal learning program commences in Week 4. In Numeracy this term we will be focusing on further developing an understanding of Place Value and our base 10 number system. We will also be investigating Statistics and Probability. In Literacy we kick off with a focus on Recounts and revisiting Reading Comprehension strategies. Students will be writing a recount in the form of a newspaper report on our excursion to the Immigration Museum before they investigate biographical recounts.

In Week 3 SCI SBF SMV SKA SJG and SSB commence their learning for our Semester One inquiry topic Immigration with a visit to the Immigration Museum in the city. Look out for some photos and a report in our next edition.

Start Up and Social Competencies

The first few weeks of school has seen classes busy setting up their processes for the year and spending some time getting to know each other and the expectations of their new classroom. Students have been involved in STEAM challenges which requires them to work together, communicate, problem solve and develop positive relationships within their new class groups. Some of our classes have been giving our Secondary 9/10 vegetable beds some much needed attention after the summer break.

PreCAL Integrated

In Semester One the PreCAL classes are focusing on Safety. The Community Experience excursions commence in Week 4. In preparation for these outings the classes have been practicing moving around the school safely as a group, keeping together and following the instructions of the adults leading the group. Look out for some photos and a report in our next edition.
