Integrated Focus
Classes are well and truly settled into their learning spaces and normal programs are underway. The amazing team in the Discovery Centre have put in a wonderful effort at the start of the year and have got the Discovery Centre set up and ready for engaging learning to take place.
Our Integrated focus this semester is Community with the Discovery Centred themed around the following time periods:
Indigenous
Colonial
Pioneering
20th Century/Federation
The activities for each time period have been related to the topics of stories, play, art, food and technology.
The Discovery Centre team is already being inundated with requests from classroom teachers booking in times to bring their class in to engage with the fabulous resources. The Integrated Unit focus areas for the F-10 sections of the school are:
Lower Primary: Then and Now
Upper Primary: Indigenous Australians
Secondary 7/8: The Australian Colonies
Secondary 9/10: Immigration
PreCAL 7/8: Personal Safety and in the Community
PreCAl 9/10: Personal Safety and in the Work Place
Classroom teachers are making links in their Literacy programs to these Integrated focus areas wherever possible.
Supporting Literacy at home
Visit the local library and read, look at or borrow books that are related to the Integrated focus your child is working on.
Supporting Numeracy at home
Tune into the weather and discuss the temperature. How does the day time maximum compare to the night time minimum? Was the day before hotter or cooler and by how much?
