Marrung Education Scholarship Winner - Annemeke Kellenbach

Marrung is a government strategy to ensure that all Koorie Victorians achieve their learning aspirations. Marrung is the Wemba Wemba word for the Murray Cypress pine tree, representing branches of education and knowledge.

The strategy awards scholarships to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students completing their education at a government school. Last year, Year 10 students that were intending on completing VCE at a government school during 2020 and 2021 were able to apply for the scholarship. Eligibility requirements include academic performance and participation in school and community activities. The scholarships recognise students who demonstrate a high potential to succeed in their chosen pathway.

A panel was established to review the applications, made up of representatives from the Victorian Aboriginal Education Association Incorporated and the Department of Education and Training.

They reviewed all the applications from across the state and chose twenty successful applicants.

Staughton College is proud to announce that Annemeke Kellenbach was successful in her application. As a proud Torres Strait Islander, Annemeke has been committed to both her studies and her participation in school and community cultural events.

The Marrung education scholarship will financially support Annemeke to complete Years 11 and 12.

On Wednesday 25th February, Annemeke attended the Marrung Award Ceremony and was recognised and presented with her award by The Hon. James Merino, Deputy Premier and Minister for Education and Geraldine Atkinson, President of Victorian Aboriginal Education Association Incorporated.

Congratulations Annemeke!
