Assistant Principal’s Report

Pamela Lambert
It is hard to believe that it is the end of term three already, the term has simply flown probably because it has been a very busy term. Not only has there been an emphasis on the students working hard and striving to achieve their full potential academically, students have been involved in many extracurricular activities. The last Newsletter had detailed coverage of the Literacy Day and the Athletic Sports. I’m sure that this Newsletter will have reports from our sporting teams, the District Athletics and the State School Spectacular. Staff and students have also been working incredibly long hours on the School Production –Bats. The performances are occurring this week and I’m looking forward to sitting in the audience and enjoying the results of all of that hard work by so many people. During the term, I also had the pleasure of accompanying Hayley Mann when she spoke at the Knox Women on the Go Breakfast, there is a report on this in the Newsletter.
Transition to Senior Options
Students in Year 10 have spent a good deal of time this term exploring possible career paths and the most appropriate options available for them in senior school. Students often find this challenging but it is pleasing to sit in career conversation with students and their parents after they have completed the information sessions and self-analysis and see the enthusiasm and thoughtfulness with which they approach the decision making on senior options.
Year 12
Year 12 students are in the process of making the decisions on what to do when they leave school. Students who wish to move on to tertiary studies, university or TAFE, are lodging their VTAC applications. Students who wish to enter full time employment are being encouraged to bring in their resumes for some feedback and assistance. It is important that the year 12 students make really good use of the time left before the exams. Dedicating time to study now can really make a big difference to performance on their exams and therefore their study scores and ATAR. Students should spend time in the end of term break completing past exams and then bring these in for their teacher to assess. The feedback they get will really help with their understanding of the study.
Thank you to Mr. Churchward
I would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank Mr. Churchward for all of his hard work this term. Mr. Churchward came into the college and very quickly we all understood that he was determined that while he was at the college he would work with the whole college community to provide the best possible educational opportunities for the young people at Bayswater Secondary College and encourage all students to realize their full potential. I am sure that your young person will have come home this term with stories of changes that have happened at the college. I know that you would join me in thanking Mr. Churchward and wishing him every success in the future.
I would also like to wish all families a safe and happy break from school. It is the last such break for year 12 students and they need to spend the time wisely, preparing for exams. They can have a break after their exams are finished. Students in years 7 -10 should have a rest. I always suggest that homework and catching up on school work is done in the first few days so students can relax and rest and return to school refreshed and ready to put in effort in term four.
