Year 7 and 8 Spelling Bees
In Year 7 and 8 there have been some excitement generated with Spelling Bees. In Year 7 Spelling Bees have been held in the students’ houses. Students were excited to win a chub-a-chub for participating and the audience enjoyed the students grappling with words like guillotine and guarantee.
In Year 8, The Spelling Bee this year was held Thursday the 30th of November. The whole year level were the audience in the auditorium. 32 students participated and in the end it was down to the last seven when the bell went. The word brusque was the word that got the most people out.
The Spelling Bee is a confronting, but fun event for those who enjoy the challenge of being competing against others. The word is read from a teacher and the student can be given multiple chances to spell it out for the presenting teacher judges. Words start simple and then become more complex. Words were taken from the Year 8 curriculum and from NAPLAN.
This year’s spelling winners are the following:
Charlotte Dirkze, Ava Den Elze, Mihiri Dharmabandu, Samantha Kintanar, Zara Cocks, Samia O’Reiley and Bella Salatino.
The overall class winners were 8E as they had the most participants and the most finalists.
