Upper Primary

PJF

PJF have enjoyed settling into the school year. We have been busy getting into our classroom routine and getting to know our peers.

We have enjoyed participating in Circle Time and Literacy and Numeracy tasks. We are also very interested in our Integrated Unit ‘Me and my environment’ and loved learning about recycling in the Discovery Centre. We can’t wait to go on camp in a couple of weeks.

PCO

PCO have had a wonderful start to 2017. In a short space of time students have settled into their new class and have been busy at work. I am thrilled to welcome the new students to Upper Primary; Aansh, Manahil, Malaak, George, Richard, Ethan, Jhai, Cody and Lachlan.

We have been very busy in our class, during Literacy sessions we have been reading the Big Book and doing lots of counting within our Numeracy rotations. The students have enjoyed our Integrated Unit on Sustainability; we are all trying our best to be energy savers and recyclers in PCO.  The students have enjoyed going to the Discovery Centre to do cooking and explore the Sensory Room.  It has been a fantastic start to the year we are all looking forward to the exciting terms ahead.

PSP

PSP have been off to great start this year. We have welcomed a new student, Elijah into our classroom and enjoyed getting to know each other.

Over the last few weeks, we have been taking part in a range of activities within Numeracy and Literacy. But a standout for the students has been the ‘fun’ activities within Literacy. The students have enjoyed making ‘Chocolate Crackles’ and ‘Fairy Bread’ to tie in with our Literacy big books.

PDJ

It is great to welcome students and parents/carers to PDJ this year. It is terrific to have some past students and some new students to make up our class. I would like to welcome these new students to Concord; Lulu, Danielle and Clinton.

The students are enjoying getting to know their classmates and the routine of the classroom. This week we celebrated Clinton’s birthday and have a few more birthdays in coming weeks. Thank you to all the parents/carers for the yummy food that was brought in.

The students are enjoying their Electives groups on Wednesday afternoon and also learning about ‘The Environment’ in our Integrated Unit, with a focus on Recycle, Reuse and Reduce. The students enjoyed going to the Discovery Centre and making a house out of recyclable materials. In class the students created their own bags using recycled newspapers.

The students particularly enjoyed making and eating pancakes last week. They followed the recipe extremely well and used toppings of honey, jam, lemon and sugar to put on their pancakes.

A nature scavenger hunt proved very popular as a way to get to know our school environment.

PDJ especially enjoy going to Library and it is terrific to see so many students borrowing books from the library and being so engrossed in their reading.

I look forward to meeting everyone in the near future.

PCC

The students in PCC have had a wonderful start to the year. They are settling into the classroom routine and working well as a team. Many of the students will graduate at the end of the year and move up to the Secondary section so we are focusing on becoming more resilient, organised and independent in preparation for that exciting change. We welcome two students who have moved up from the Lower Primary campus; Uzochi A and Patrick A and also two new students to Concord School Phillip L and Matthew Y.

Congratulations to Jake T who was chosen as Class Captain for term one.

This term we have been working on number and place value in numeracy and comprehension and recount in literacy. Students have been playing many games that help them learn and also build up confidence and friendships. Our integrated unit is “Me and my environment” and the students have been learning about the water cycle, rivers and the animals that depend upon them and how littering can have an impact on our environment.

PJT

PJT welcomes Brayden, Nour and Brandon to our class.

We have had a wonderful start to a very busy year. Whilst some time has been spent on assessing students’ skills, we have managed to learn lots as well.

We have done some work on researching the planets of our Solar System. Each student chose a planet and did a power point presentation about that planet. They also spent some time making a model of their planets. There are some very good models on our back board. We have also done a lot work on graphing data such as car colours, favourite chocolates, sports and fast foods.

We have also spent time on our Integrated Curriculum unit learning about ‘Sustainability’ and are beginning to design and make a sustainable house, which we will present to an audience later in the semester.

All students have settled well into their new class and are friendly and supportive of each other.

PKO

This year in PKO we have 11 students. We have welcomed 8 students from Lower Primary; Alannah, Erik, Fiorella, Jack, Jacob, Joshua, Marcus and Mark. They have happily joined the class’ Upper Primary role models Arjun, Nikola and Patrick. We have spent lots of time learning the school routines and class expectations.

A big highlight already this year was when we cooked pancakes in the classroom. Everyone made their own pancake in the frying pan and watched carefully for the bubbles to form so they knew it was time to flip them. We drizzled the pancakes with maple syrup and ate them using knives and forks.

We can’t wait to see what the rest of this year will bring!
