Makerbot Creative Arts and TAS Collaboration

The College has recently purchased two Makerbot 3D printers. The printers have been purchased as an additional learning tool, which can be used in design and in Visual Arts. This product allows students to create and print objects that are both decorative and functional. Creative Arts and TAS have set up the printer in Studio 3 so it can be viewed during the day. Another is located in the resource Centre, and since its addition to the area it has been running hot operating almost 24 hours a day!

The students have been exploring the Makerbot and the associated products, which they can access throughout most of the day. This is such an exciting opportunity for the students and staff to experience and we can’t wait to see what is created during the following months.

Year 7 Visual Arts students are excited about the prospect of using the 3D printer as a part of their creative activities. They are currently exploring sculpture and the Makerbot experience can only add to their learning experience.

Students can explore Thingiverse, which has an amazing number of preloaded physical images ready for printing.
