Creative Arts LOTE KLA

The Creative Arts and LOTE KLA has been creatively busy this term. We started with Trial HSC followed by Years 9 and 10 Drama performances. The hard working HSC Drama students performed their Trial HSC in front of parents and friends and on the 28th of August performed their HSC individual and group performances. The wonderful HSC Musicians performed for family and friends and undertook their Practical HSC examination today, while Year 12 Visual Arts have submitted their artworks for marking.
Also a big congratulation to Mr David Saxon who was selected as an HSC marker this year and is currently involved in HSC marking, which is in progress, somewhere in NSW. He has a wealth of experience in music and performance and this is a fantastic professional opportunity for David.
In the classroom there has also been a lot of activity and students are engaged in their learning both collaboratively and on an individual level. Next term the Creative Arts and LOTE KLA will be opening the doors of the College for our now annual Creative Arts Showcase Evening to be held on the 28 October in the Resource Centre. The night showcases a selection of what students have been engaged in during the year. More information will be available in the coming weeks.
And now a wrap up from the learning areas…
VISUAL ARTS
Yr 7 Visual Arts students have been working hard throughout Term 3. They are now familiar with a number of Modern artmovements including Impressionism, Cubism, German Expressionism and Minimalism. Students examined each artmovement both collaboratively and individually and investigated a range of artists and their inspirations. They then composed a Tweet where they explained each artmovement. Year 7 students have completed a painting inspired by either one or a combination of the artmovements they have studied. The students discuss techniques and styles related to each artwork and the artworks are currently on display in the T-Block Gallery. Students are beginning to investigate sculpture. The student will explore a range of ways to make sculpture including cardboard, wire and using the newly acquired 3D printer. The main sculptural piece they will focus on will be created using reused and recycled materials, designing and creating their own.

Year 7 ART
Students have completed their major art works for Term 3 and look how amazing they are!
Can you identify which artmovement they focused on?
Cubism? Minimalism? Impressionism? German Expressionism? Or a mix of any of those styles?
Here’s what they would tweet if they had to explain any of those art movements to someone in 140 characters:
Anna Boland
Impressionism is an art style that when you stand away from it, it looks like something different from if you stand in front of it. It is made up of brush strokes and splodges.
Eleanor Hoban
Minimalism is such a simple, but very effective and cool way to do art! Minimal to the max! #minimalism #stylishpiece
Lucinda Kelleher
Artists used German Expressionism as a way to express their emotions in the form of art so that they can share what they feel to the world.

Yr 8 Visual Arts students have thoroughly explored the lino printing process, from generating effective designs through to experimenting and recording in their Visual Arts Process Diary, and then printing a series of multi-coloured images using a reduction printing method. The results have been amazing!!! More recently, students have begun to explore painting techniques. Each student is working towards completing their own unique artwork, using a range of techniques and applying the elements of art, including grounds in their compositions. The students have explored a range of design ideas and have created paintings based on their chosen subject matter. Students have also composed an artist’s statement which includes information on both artworks and explains not only their inspiration but their understanding of the processes they have used. Next term students
will be examining Contemporary art practices closely looking at Street art and Australian based artists.

Yr 9 Photography & Digital Media students have worked hard to develop their understanding of the principles of animation as well as create their own 2-4 minute animation. Students have developed skills in using Flash software exploring ‘shape tweens’ and ‘motion paths’. A number of students have entered their imaginative and quality animations into the Waggafest short film competition which is based on the theme “The Best is Yet to Come” and judging is currently taking place; we wish the students all the best.
