Reading - Homework for Year 7, 8 and 9

Reading regularly is one of the key factors in academic success. Students who read regularly perform higher in tests for all subjects and have a better content knowledge than non readers.

Reading is the key to:

  • accessing learning in all subjects
  • improving critical thinking
  • building vocabulary
  • Improving concentration and memory
  • building creativity

These skills are crucial for both personal and academic development. It is important that we make reading a habit.

All students in Year 7, 8 and 9 have been asked to read for 20 minutes a day, 5 times a week. The staff will work with students setting individual targets, helping students select material and monitoring their progress.

We ask that you work with us to support students as they build up their reading routine. Please encourage them to pick a regular time and quiet place to read. Encourage them to put aside anything that may distract them like phones and music.  You can further support them by asking them about what they are reading.

Thanks you for your support.
