Year 6 City Excursion

On Tuesday 4th of October, all the year sixes went on a brilliant excursion to the Queen Victoria Market, Parliament House and the Mary Mackillop Heritage Centre. Everyone arrived at school at 8:30 and we jumped on the bus. We were all so thrilled when we saw the market and couldn't wait to get some donuts.  A highlight for many people was the Queen Vic Market. I bought a jam donut, jar of raspberry drops and two Churros, but the guy serving us was so nice he gave us all one for free. We had such amazing helpers with us including many parents and our wonderful teachers. I was in Mr Crowe’s group and we had lots of fun. Isabel tried on a purple wig that she definitely should have bought but didn’t, and we also saw these frog hats that we were thinking of buying but also didn’t. After the market, we got back on the bus and headed to Parliament House. Once we got there we split into two groups. Group A and Group B. I was in Group B and we ate lunch first then headed to Parliament House. At Parliament house, we had to go through security where everyone was fine. We had Justin and Grace as our guides. They did a roleplay debate and we got to sit in the actual seat Parliamentary Ministers sat in. After Parliament, we walked to the Mary Mackillop Heritage Centre. Anne Marie and Anne were the tour guides for the Mary Mackillop Heritage Centre. We split into two smaller groups and we got to see all the different olden-day pieces Mary Mackillop actually used. Altogether the day was amazing and we all learned so much.

On Tuesday the 4th of October we went into the city to expand our knowledge of our inquiry unit. We were walking around in the Queen Victoria Market and there were 600 shops to buy from, our favourite shop was the lolly shop with all of the lolly ropes like marshmellow and cola. We then headed to the Mary Mackillop centre to learn about her. In my small group (Ryder) my teacher was Mrs.De Leo and in my group, I had Josh, Sam  Noah and Will. In my group ( Hunter) I had Sheleigh as my parents. I had Jack, Eva, Sienna and Grace K. Then we ate lunch in the Fitzroy gardens. After that, we went to the Parliament House of Victoria and we got to roleplay the decision of a bill. We went to the lower house then into the library and learnt about the upper house. We did a role play at the lower house to decide if it was to become a law and it was about whether gambling ads should be banned. It ended up not happening. This was a very fun experience for everyone and learned lots of new things thanks to everyone that helped during the excursion and helped with planning it.
