Sustainabilty & Gardening News

Hi everyone!

A number of senior Trinity students have the exciting opportunity to be involved in the Big Ideas for Young Minds: Climate Change Summit for Schools summit, held by the State Library of Victoria. A very special “well done” to Adelia Vong who, over the holidays, sent me a passionate email outlining her reasons for wanting to be included in the summit. We are proud to have such thoughtful and passionate students and are excite to see how their desires to change their world for the better, will develop. Enjoy reading Adelia’s writing below:

MY APPLICATION - Adelia Vong 5/6FA

WHY SHOULD YOU BE CHOSEN TO PARTICIPATE?

I am very passionate about Climate Change. I want to be a spokesperson for my generation. I want to be as informed as I can be so I can come up with creative and innovative ideas which will contribute towards positive action in the prevention of Climate Change.

WHY DO YOU WANT TO GO?

I am an ideal candidate because I am committed to the ongoing climate action. Being able to attend the Student Climate Change Summit will allow me to listen to inspiring people who are experts in this field. This will ignite my spark to implement new initiatives at Trinity and in the wider community. Having the privilege to collaborate with other schools will give me the opportunity to challenge my opinions and to form new ideas which I can take back to Trinity.

Gardening Fun

Our gardens have flourished over the school holidays and we had an abundant harvest today. We picked a huge amount of silverbeet and bok choy and several students brought some home so hopefully you will cook some tasty dinners tonight. Our calendula flowers have bloomed and our radishes are ready to pick, so we enjoyed harvesting them and munching on the yummy petals and spicy radish. We left some flowers in the garden because they provide great food for the bees.

We would love to see any photos of our produce taken home being included in your dinner!  If you take a photo, please send to bnechwatal@tcs.catholic.edu.au.

Things we need!

Wooden spoons - to make decorative plant labels for our vegetable gardens.

We still need more paper bags to take our veggies home in. Please leave at the office, labelled “Miss Belinda”. Thank you!

3/4 BOC and 1/2 MB win Nude Food this week, with a MASSIVE 17 rubbish free lunches! Well done!

Some yummy ideas - a sandwich/wrap/roll, pasta with vegetables, soup, frittata or sushi, a fruit or vegetable snack, such as whole fruit, cut up veggie sticks, fruit or savoury kebab or a small salad.

There is a great booklet of ideas here
