Breaksea House News

Coming to the end of Term Three in boarding is always bittersweet. It is the time we begin farewelling our Year Twelve boarders and celebrating their entry into the next season of life. This can be a time of many mixed emotions, the fear of the future, the excitement of new opportunities and wondering if they have achieved everything they wanted at school. So, the last few weeks in Breaksea have been full of many of these emotions. This week we have said farewell to a number of our General Pathway students, as they come to the end of their time at Grammar.

Country Week

Just after the last Buzz, we farewelled the students to Country Week. This was super exciting and I think everyone held their breath until the bus finally arrived in Perth. Yes, the event was finally going to happen. Over the week we heard stories of friendships built, sporting escapades and a whole lot of fun. Congratulations to all who achieved the success of representing the school in Perth for the week.

Sporting Successes

It has also been a busy time of sporting competitions entering grand final season, a few disappointments, and some amazing personal achievements. Whilst the senior girls lost in nail biting finish, it was wonderful to see both Tiffany Butterworth and Rhiannon Williams-Jolley acknowledged for their dedication to netball, commitment to personal growth and personal skills. Congratulations to all our hockey, volleyball and netball players.

Year Twelve Farewells

Over the last four weeks the students of Breaksea have been meeting and planning a wonderful farewell for the Year Twelve students. They decided that in addition to the farewell dinner, mentioned in the Heads of Boarding section, they would create memory boxes and give out awards to the various students. The memory boxes allowed each staff member and Years Ten and Eleven students to consider a little gift or message they would like to give to each of the Year Twelve students. The boxes were overflowing and the laughter and excitement was delightful. There were funny photos, fancy makeup ideas, cooking tips, favourite foods, books, washing powder, toys for a puppy, lego, kits for the future and jokes. The girls definitely felt like they were farewelled. Lily Quick handmade little trophies and these went with some funny achievement awards.

I asked a number of our Years Ten and Eleven students to provide reflections on the farewell and our Year Twelve students.

On Sunday night, boarding held a farewell dinner for our soon to be departing Year Twelves. We all pitched in to set up for the event, doing our part to ensure the Year Twelve's really enjoyed the evening. I had the job of painting picture frames that displayed the personalities of each of our Year Twelves and I also decorated the Dining Hall, the starring event location. The event ran smoothly and we ate favourite foods of the Year Twelves, which were delicious, and chat amongst our senior peers.

We will be sad to see our beloved Year Twelves leave and we all hope they enjoy the bright future set before them. I hope that they will always remember the amazing community they were apart of in boarding and know they were a key part in it.

On Sunday the Senior School boarders got dressed up to say goodbye to our Year Twelves. Everyone spent the night sharing laughter, tears and memories. Together we enjoyed the Year Twelves favourite foods as well as a pavlova grazing table and a chocolate fountain. Later, Breaksea house presented the girls with ‘most likely to’s’ and personalised gift boxes full of memories and presents from the younger years. We all enjoyed spending the night celebrating the time the Year Twelves have spent at Grammar and wishing them the best for the future.

On Sunday we had a farewell dinner for the Year Twelves which all of senior school boarders pitch into. It was a great night, with many laughs, photos, and food. It featured an abundance of the Year Twelve's favourite foods and a pavlova themed grazing table for dessert. We loved the Year Twelves being apart of the boarding house and we wish them all the best for their futures.

Saying goodbye is not always easy but we took a positive approach on Sunday night. We farewelled the Year Twelve boarders and appreciated all their time spent in boarding, wishing them the very best for their future. The night was full of laughter, smiles and tears but overall was a wonderful night. We all enjoyed spending time with each other and sharing this memory with the Year Twelves.

Birthdays

After a massive birthday month in August, September is a birthday-free month in Breaksea, however we did celebrate one NOT birthday for Chelsea Evans who did not want a fuss made on her birthday last month.  So Happy NOT Birthday Chelsea.

We will look forward to more cakes and celebrations at the start of Term Four.
