Why Do We Do It?

Mr Kelly and Mr May, Mrs Chapman, Mrs Pigram, Mrs Muirhead, Mrs Price, other staff, many past students and myself have all helped out at the Archives Room in the Breezeway at various times. Why do we do that? Because we feel sorely that we cannot know who we are now if we are unfamiliar with our historical journey, certainly a journey inclusive of our local Aboriginal history.

What Do We Keep?

Clothing, trophies, images (statues and photographic), cultural items, books, articles and various records donated by families and teachers alike. However, a collection of any size requires cleaning, preservation and sorting, all needing to be undertaken with care.

Reunions

Past students love to get together and wander about the school, retelling memories of their time and bringing each other up to date with the whereabouts and life journeys of friends met here at school. Mr Kelly and I try to have records out for their year’s reunion, copy their year books and have the digital files ready for attendees to download. Sadly, the annual school magazine was discontinued after 2000 and replaced with Newsletters.  Reunion attendees also usually love to peruse the displays in the Archives Room and discuss what has happened in the school since their time here.

New Buildings and Renovations

With each new construction on the school site and the excavations involved, Mr Kelly is tireless in keeping his eye out for items found underground by builders, students and staff. In the Archives room we have collected quite a number of small cars, school badges, medicine bottles and coins found in this way. All reflect the school life in past generations.
