NSW All Schools Athletic Championships - Sydney

While some of us were putting our feet up during the school holidays, three of our O'Connor students were tearing up the track down at Homebush in Sydney. Brooke Newberry, John Harris and Tom Bible attended the championships which are a 4 day event and draw from all Government and Non-Government schools in NSW. This high level competition is a drawing ground for the National Championships held in March next year.

Brooke competed in the race walk, this time at a longer distance of 5000m and up an age group to put her in the running for a Nationals qualifier, producing an impressive 4th place result and the qualifying result of 28.58:49.

John put down a time of 2:05.65 in the 800m, 16 years event, narrowly missing a Nationals qualifier. Placing 11th out of 20, this is an impressive result.

Tom competed in the 19 years age group for the 1500m placing 6th out of 13 in a time of 14:14.87. Tom has been on a steady improvement curve, and with the 6 month athletics season (non school) commencing this week, this base will put him in good stead for upcoming competitions.
