Term 4 Overviews 

 

Prep– Dance 

During term four, prep students will explore the movement possibilities of different body parts. They will use different body regions and bases, and practice skills and techniques such as breathing, movement memory, copying and mirroring, and combining stillness and movement. They will also explore different locomotor movements, such as walking, skipping, running, sliding and galloping. 

 

Year 2 Performing Arts – Drama

During term 4, year 2 students will enter the world of the dramatic arts and explore the question “What is drama?”. They will examine different types of drama and also participate in the roles of both the actor and audience. They will make and present drama and learn how to use their facial expressions, actions and voice to communicate stories. They will examine how the different elements of drama such as role, situation and focus can also assist with their storytelling. Year 2 students will make personal connections to their devised works and reflect on what they like and why. 

 

Year 6 Performing Arts – Drama 

During term 4, year 6 students will enter the world of the dramatic arts and explore the question “What is drama?” They will explore dramatic action and develop skills and techniques of voice and movement to create character, mood and atmosphere; and focus dramatic action. They will perform devised and scripted drama and explain how the elements of drama, communicate meaning in the works they create, perform and view. They explore how drama from different times and places, inform their works. 

 

Year 7 Visual Arts – Ceramics/Clay

During term 4, year 7 students will explore the question “How do artists use materials, techniques, technologies and processes to realise their intentions in artworks?”, more specifically in relation to clay. They will begin by brainstorming what they already know about clay, what they wonder about clay and determine what they will need to know in order to complete their final artwork. Students will examine the clay tools and equipment required, different working techniques such as slab, pinch and coil and will also delve into the use of the kiln and glazes. They will then determine which technique or combination of techniques will allow them to achieve their desired result.
