2022 Term 4 Program Overview Mandarin 

 

Prep

In Term 4, Prep students will start having conversations with their classmates. They will learn to ask and answer to the question “ni hao ma?  (how are you)?”  They also will learn the names of different animals, such as “ma (horse)” and “hu (tiger)” from a story called “ma ma hu hu”. 

 

Year 1

In Term 4, Year 1 students will learn about the Mid-Autumn Festival and the relevant language elements. They will learn the Chinese characters related to the myth story of the festival. They will also introduce the people in the story and the food items of the festival using “zhe shi….(this is…)”.

 

Year 2

In term 4, we are going to learning the natural elements in Chinese such as "yun" cloud, "tian" sky, "shui" water and extra. Further extend their skills on expressing "xi huan" like and "bu xi huan" dislike of the natural elements for example “wo xi huan yun” I like cloud.

 

Year 3

In term 4, we are learning to introduce our family members in Chinese, such as in my family there are 5 people "wo de jia you wu ge ren", extend on the family members sentence such as mum, dad, sister, brother and myself "ba ba, ma ma, ge ge, jie jie he wo".

 

Year 4

In term 4, we are learning to read the story The Boy Who Cried Wolves in Chinese. Students are to understand and pronounce the tone accurately when reading sentences in Chinese.  

 

Year 5

In term 4, we are learning to tell dates and time in Chinese for example “xian zai 1 dian” now is 1 o’clock. Students also learn to understand that in Chinese we always write the largest number at the beginning of the sentence. 

 

Year 6

In term 4, we are learning to introduce different jobs/occupations in Mandarin. Students are able to introduce in sentence of what job they do "wo shi xue sheng" I am a student, and also express like and dislike of a job "wo bu xi huan/xi huan wo de gong zuo" I like/dislike my job.

 

Year7

In Term 4, Year 7 students will learn to apply a number of question words, such as “shen me (what)” and “duo shao (how many)”, in making conversations. They will also investigate various traditions of the Mid-Autumn Festival through collaboration. By reading through an idiom story “杞人忧天( the Sky is Falling)”, they will learn to retell and perform the story in Mandarin. They will also learn to write with conjunction words, such as “yin wei…(because)” and “suo yi….(as a result)…”.
