News From Year 4/5/6

We have been working on creating a hybrid text using author Claire Saxby's books as a stimulus. This week we have read Tasmanian Devil, which, like another of Claire's stories that we have studied (Red Kangaroo) has a narrative story as well as a non-fiction component, running side-by-side. We are working towards creating our our Dinosaur based text using this style of writing.

In Numeracy we are looking at all things Data. We have been looking at data sets and interpreting them as well as calculating the mean, median and mode of the data. We will also be turning this data into a graphical format.

Our previous unit of study was Toys and the students focused on learning about the toys and game of the past. Students were tasked with researching the origins of toys from days gone by and comparing them with similar toys available now. It was like a trip down memory lane for the staff and the students did an excellent job of including relevant and interesting information as well as presenting their project to the class and the younger students.

Writing with Miss Coffey

Here are the published junior grade Question and Answer Poems...

Week 5 has seen the Prep-2 children commence writing their ‘colour’ poems. These poems are aimed expressing personal feeling about a chosen colour. They use similes, nouns and analogies to make the writing more engaging for the audience.  Colour Poems are easy to write and are an expressive way for children to address their feelings about the colours they see around them. We look forward to sharing them with you next newsletter!

Gymnastics

A reminder that today is the first of our four visits into Jets Gym for our whole school gymnastics sessions. We will leave school at 1pm (after having an early lunch) and return to school before dismissal time. Our session runs from 1.30pm until 2.30pm. Any families wishing to collect their child/ren from the gym, instead of them returning to Raywood on the bus are asked to let us know and meet us at the front of the gym at 2.30pm.

Kelly Sports

Our weekly Friday sessions with Kelly Sports are continuing to run until mid-term. Our students are really enjoying these engaging and active sessions which mostly take place in our stadium, due to the wet grounds and fickle weather. We are so fortunate to have this stadium onsite and readily available for use.
