McCarthy Chess Clubs Finishes the Term with two friendly Matches

As Term 3 came to an end, it became a busy time for the Chess club. In Week 8, the McCarthy Chess club traveled to Armidale to play some friendly matches against O’Connor Catholic College and NEGS (New England Girls School). The aim of the game was to help develop player skills, especially how for the rest of the year, players will be using timers for the games. Playing chess with timers helps develop rapid thinking skills and makes the games both quick and exciting. This trip also helped NEGS develop their Chess team, which we look forward to playing again in the future.

I would like to thank Mr Warwick Pearson, from NEGS and Mr Peter McLeish from O'Connor Catholic College for making the day a success. All players enjoyed the day.

In Week 9, the McCarthy Chess club traveled to Farrer Agricultural Memorial High School to play a friendly game. All players represented the College well and were excellent ambassadors, as well as displaying great chess playing skills. All players enjoyed themselves and took a lot from the games. I would like to thank Mr Edward Rogers for hosting our players. Both chess clubs have enjoyed a close playing relationship and this looks to continue into next term.

The chess club runs every Friday, second break in the Library. New players are welcome to join.
