Cathedral Concert

Congratulations to all members of the College's premiere string and choral ensembles who performed to a very high standard at the Cathedral Concert last Thursday night, 29 July. Hosted at St Stephen’s Cathedral in Brisbane City, this special event has been running for close to twenty years, showcasing our string and choral groups in a beautiful venue with well-suited acoustics. We are pleased to announce that for the first time this concert has been filmed by the College Tech Crew and we look forward to sharing a link with you in an upcoming edition of the College Newsletter.

Jumpers and Jazz Festival - Warwick, QLD

In the early hours of the morning on Thursday 22 July, Big Band 1 packed their instruments and backline onto a coach and travelled two hours southwest of Marist Ashgrove to perform at the annual Warwick Jumpers and Jazz Festival. This regional festival is one of Queensland’s premier jazz events, with over 60,000 patrons attending since its inception in 2004. Braving single-digit temperatures throughout the first set, the boys demonstrated a high level of musicianship with a captivating performance to a crowd of locals and visitors. Here is an excerpt from their performance, featuring “Cute” (Neal Hefti) as performed by the Count Basie Orchestra.

School Closure

Thank you to all music staff who have made the continuation of Instrumental Lessons possible this week as we navigate through another school closure. As communicated by our Head of College Mr Michael Newman, all instrumental lessons will occur as timetabled via Microsoft Teams. Further information regarding music events upon returning to school, including ensemble rehearsals, will be communicated via the College APP as more information becomes available. Due to this, the Winds and Percussion Concert scheduled for this Thursday 5 August has been cancelled, refunds will be arranged via TryBooking as soon as possible. We thank all members of the College community for your understanding at this time.

Music Administration Officer

Thank you and best wishes to Ms Kerri Engstrom who concluded her time with the Marist Music Department earlier this term. We are pleased to welcome Ms Vanessa Mitchell to the role of Music Administration Officer. Please make Ms Mitchell feel welcome and we appreciate your patience through this transition.
