At-Home Learning

Unfortunately, we have found ourselves in another period of home learning.  Although we would much prefer to have all the boys back on campus, we did learn a great deal from our first extended lockdown last year.  The first was the importance of staying connected to the College.

All boys are expected to attend their Pastoral Group each morning.  This will allow them time to meet with their peers and Pastoral Group teacher, hear messages for the day and interact in both house meetings and assembly. Please ensure that your son/s are on time, in full school uniform and ready to participate virtually.

For the teaching and learning program, we also learnt that being able to video conference with the class improved engagement, and provided boys with the ability to ask questions and seek clarification with ease.  For this reason, Marist College Ashgrove will be following our normal school timetable via the Teams platform.  Each class with being recorded and boys will be provided with rigorous learning activities for the duration of each lesson. All lesson resources will be easily accessible via Moodle.  Boys are to be punctual for their lesson (bell times below) and rolls will be marked, as per a normal school day.

A reminder that all normal school rules apply during online lessons, including not eating or drinking, use of appropriate language (spoken and written), the importance of being visible (please use video when logging on or when requested by the teacher), the expectation of engagement with learning tasks and the importance of following teacher instructions.

Access to resources

A reminder that for senior students, subject textbooks are available on Box of Books that can be accessed via the learning portal. Moodle also houses subject-specific resources.

For middle school students, Jac Plus can be accessed via the learning portal and all other subject resources can also be found on Moodle.

Boys are to continue studying for these exams as they have done for previous exam blocks. With multiple exams scheduled across the two days (in line with the QCAA external assessment block), it is important that boys use the extra days of study time to further consolidate course content.

If there are any further disruptions, this exam block will be reviewed and updates communicated to students and parents.

We continue to work in partnership with QCAA (Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority) to ensure our students are completing tasks in the required timeframes and that they are not disadvantaged by the lockdown.
