The study of Indonesian is not just about learning a language. In class students do a variety of activities, including learning about the culture and traditions of another country, and sometimes they even get to play a few 'wacky' games. A traditional game which is usually played on Indonesia's Impendence Day (17th August) involves having a string tied behind you with a pencil attached to the end. The aim is to get the pencil into the bottle. As our students discovered, this is often easier said than done!
