Rush House News

Mr Adam Knight

What a term it has been! A myriad of wonderful experience was bestowed upon the young men of Rush this term, and the majority took the opportunities with both hands.

The theme in Rush House this term was our House motto – “Inspiritu Invictus” where our boys both learned about and experienced first-hand the “unconquerable spirit” we are aiming to instil in them. At House meetings, we looked at the story of MND campaigner and sufferer Neale Daniher, the history of Nelson Mandela and the connection to the poem Invictus, and applying this never-give-up mantra in saying no to cannabis and the damage it does the adolescent developing brain. Outside of the classroom, the boys applied the “unconquerable spirit” into cross-country with admirable performances, and to tug-o-war with a final result of third place! Our peer-mentoring continued, and the boys even learned how to tie a Half Windsor knot. This may have helped our Year 10 boys at their final dancing session at City Hall, who all certainly looked magnificent for the evening!

Most notably was the challenge our Year 9s took on camp, where the experiences of “pushing the mountain”, setting up camp and cooking for themselves were balanced with a viewing of the full lunar eclipse and a swim in Stony Creek (yes, it was cold!). Also of note, this term was the performance of our budding photographers in the ASHCAM competition, with Darcy Knight winning his division, Henry Knight coming runner-up, and Jack Paterson earning a Highly-Commended. Well done boys!

It was certainly a busy term, and we all look forward to Term 3!
