Saint Teresa’s Prayer

Christ has no body now but yours,

No hands, no feet on earth but yours,

Yours are the eyes through which he looks,

compassion on the world.

Yours are the feet with which he walks to do good,

Yours are the hands!  With which he blesses all the world!

Yours are the hands!  Yours are the feet!  Yours are the eyes, you are his Body!

GPS Inclusive Rugby

Braden Querido and Angus Bathe

Over the course of the past 8 weeks, we’ve had the pleasure of volunteering down at GPS Rugby Club as a part of the Inclusive Rugby Program. And what an amazing 8 weeks it has been.

Inclusive Rugby strives to provide a safe and inclusive environment for children with different abilities to participate in Rugby. For many of these children, it’s their first involvement as a player in a sports team, and most parents haven’t ever been able to experience what our parents are lucky enough to call the norm – grabbing a cup of coffee or some hot chips and chatting with other parents while watching their child having fun and playing sport. Braden and I were buddied up with a young boy called Ayden. It was his first time ever being a part of a team that was bigger than himself, and his mum would drive him all the way from Bald Hills on Friday nights to train and early on Saturday mornings to play. Ayden hadn’t really had much experience interacting with other kids before, particularly in a social environment, but as the season progressed, we formed a great friendship with our buddy as he developed into a promising rugby player and a good teammate. The constant chats with him about aeroplanes and the laughs and smiles that we shared when he was kicking the ball to us, passing it around with his teammates, or running the length of the field to score his first-ever try were really special. Neither of us will ever forget it.

After many weeks of training with the program, the big day finally came on Saturday 19 June. We were going to be the half-time show at the GPS Premier Grade game against rivals Norths Rugby Club. At half-time, we kicked off for the last game of the season. Ayden played brilliantly in that match, and as we ran around with our buddy, Braden and I knew we had made a real difference in this boy’s life.

The memories we made over the course of that season are ones that we will cherish forever, and I know that the two of us were so glad that we were able to be a part of such an amazing program. Thanks must go to everyone involved in the program down at GPS and also to Mr McMahon and Ms McLean for providing us with such a great opportunity. We both urge anyone who’s interested in participating in this program to have a chat to us about the program and sign up for next season. It’s a great initiative and it’d be great to see more Marist boys getting around it

Year 11 Gamechangers Twilight Retreat

Our thanks to the Year 11 Gamechanger students who ably represented the College at a Twilight retreat on 18 June 2021. Together with other Brisbane schools, Trinity College, Beenleigh and Carmel College, Thornlands they spent time together playing games, participating in an array of activities and engaging in prayer and reflection.

Great Book Swap Friday 30 July

Looking for a holiday job around the house? Fancy curling up somewhere warm with an old favourite?

The College will host a Great Book Swap this year on Friday 30 July to end our own Book week.

The Great Book Swap (an initiative of the Indigenous Literacy Foundation) is a fantastic way to celebrate reading locally, learn more about Indigenous languages and culture, while raising funds for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation.

The idea is to swap a favourite book in exchange for a gold coin donation.

These holidays we are encouraging our students and staff to use the ‘downtime’ to re-read old favourites, clean out bookshelves and donate those books that can be ‘rehomed’ on return to Term 3.

Reading Opens Doors

Donate your loved books, and purchase something new to read.
