Principal's Report

COVID Safety Update

As I write this newsletter, we are in our second week of the current lockdown. School began normally after the holidays, with the students so excited to be back at school with their friends and teachers. How quickly life can change in a few days! I have Primary and Secondary aged children myself so I know how challenging home schooling can be while working and attending to everything else that goes with trying to keep the family safe and happy. Please let us know if we can provide support to your child in any way, particularly if you feel they are becoming disengaged from school.

As written in my Compass message on Tuesday, Concord School will provide on-site supervision for students in the following categories:

  • Children where both parents and/or carers are authorised workers who cannot work from home, work for an essential provider and where no other supervision arrangements can be made
  • Children experiencing vulnerability, including children in out-of-home care, children deemed by Child Protection and/or Family Services to be at risk of harm and children identified by the school as vulnerable (including via referral from a family violence agency, homelessness or youth justice service or mental health or other health service)
  • Children who cannot learn from home. Please send an email to concord.sch@education.vic.gov.au if you believe your child is eligible to attend school for supervision. Please ensure that applications are submitted by 4pm on the previous business day. This is required for the school to ensure adequate staffing arrangements can be made. You will be sent a return email by 5pm to confirm eligibility.

School Building Works

I have previously communicated that Concord School received $10 million in state government funding in order to construct new buildings. These funds will create more space for our increasing enrolment and provide learning spaces that will be both functional and attractive.

I’m pleased to advise that new buildings will be constructed at both campuses next year commencing towards the end of term 1. We are now finalising the initial plans and funding allocations with the Victorian Schools Building Authority and Law Architects. I hope to show you our exciting plans very soon.

Parent Opinion Survey

WE WANT OUR PARENTS/CAREGIVERS/GUARDIANS TO TELL US WHAT THEY THINK

Our school is conducting a survey to find out what parents/caregivers/guardians think of our school. The Parent/Caregiver Opinion Survey is an annual survey offered by the Department of Education and Training. It is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behaviour, student engagement and experiences of remote and flexible learning. Our school will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies. All parents/carers will be invited to participate in this year’s survey. All responses to the survey are anonymous. This year, the Parent/Caregiver Opinion Survey will be conducted from Monday 19th July to Sunday 22nd August.

The survey will be conducted online, only takes 20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time within the fieldwork period on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones. The online survey will be available in a range of languages other than English. These include: Arabic, Vietnamese, Mandarin, Chin (Hakha), Hindi, Japanese, Somali, Turkish, Punjabi and Greek.

The survey will be sent to you via Compass.

Principal Award-  Daniel Malorni

Daniel has worked hard being resilient and hard-working throughout the entirety of Semester 1. Although he has been at Concord for only a few years, this is the first year that Daniel has come out of his shell and really showcased his enthusiastic personality.

He contributes to all classroom discussions, jokes around with his peers, and attended camp for the first time. These positive experiences have resulted in more confidence in academic tasks where he has worked extremely hard.

Daniel comes to school each day with a positive attitude towards his learning and consistently demonstrates our Concord School Values. He has begun to see progress in all of his work and said that he is finally starting to “get it” when reading and writing.

Congratulations to Daniel!
