Magic Club - First Tournament of the Year

Within the Magic the Gathering club a tournament is in the works! Soon, any members of the MTG club will be able to battle against each other in a competitive, yet fun style. The tournament will be based off the basic MTG rules, but with some twists and turns! The new tournament rules are as follows:

  1. The tournament will begin with a draft, meaning that players will open sealed packs for cards to use to build their own deck suited to their playstyle and available resources from the packs. These packs only include common and uncommon cards, so there’s no need to worry about overpowered cards! No Cyclonic Rifts here!
  2. Players will create a 40-card deck (including lands) with the cards they have gained built around a certain theme, colour combination and strategy.
  3. Players will select a Commander for their deck. A Commander is any legendary creature. Your Commander is kept separate from your deck in the “Command Zone” and can be cast at any time! Beware, as once your commander dies and is sent back to the Command Zone it costs 2 more mana of many colour. So be strategic!

You can use a cards you have gotten from the sealed packs. However, the deck you have created MUST have the all same mana colours as shown on your Commander’s cost and textbox.

Members of MTG club and myself are preparing for the tournament by practicing our skills, thinking of any strategies that may appear and what to expect from our opponents. There is also a prize to be given out to the champion of the tournament, so hone your skills as a player for a chance to win the reward!

Hopefully, with more funding for the club, we will be able to conduct more tournaments in the future as well as have more prizes available for the champions and runner-up prizes.

I hope to see you on the battlefield, Planeswalker!

Diversity Club

Early this term Diversity Club was host to Pauline Richards who is the Member of Parliament for the seat of Cranbourne. Ms. Richards spoke of inclusion and the importance of having representation, and offered her support in ensuring that the LGBT+ community continues to remain visible in our greater community. This is a very important message for students of diversity club to hear, and her support is greatly welcomed. Moving forward, Diversity Club hopes to expand our network of support with the assistance of Ms. Richards, and improve our visibility within the community.

From next week onwards Diversity Club will be having a change of location to facilitate our growing attendance and will now be located in OP05 and OP06. Students are invited to join us to help plan for IDAHOBIT day which will take place in term 2 and is aimed at showing support to gender diverse members of our school community.Psychologist,
