Year 7 Camp

On Monday 24th of February, the Year 7’s headed to Campaspe Downs in Kyneton for their 3 day orientation camp. The weather was fine and all of the students were very excited about their first camp as secondary college students.

During the Camp, the students were involved in a number of outdoor activities and were able to build relationships and meet new students who they hadn’t previously spent any time with. All of the students were really well behaved and staff were clearly able to see new friendships being made and the smiles on the student’s faces, showed how much of a good time they were all having.

Some of our students wrote about their favourite memories of camp-

My favourite memory of camp was the leap of faith and the possum glider. It was fun because we got to climb up the pole and reach the platform, which was our goal. Once we were up there, we had to jump off and hit the balloon. Next to the leap of faith was the possum glider. One person put on a harness and was attached to all of the ropes. The rest of the group needed to run and the person in the harness was lifted high up into the air. When we were up high, we had to try and throw beanbags into the buckets below. I got one in, so that was really cool. In between activities we got afternoon tea, which was a type of fruit cake, it was amazing.

We woke up and got ready for the long day ahead of us. 4 awesome activities waiting for us and I could not wait. Teachers came to our cabins, telling us to go line up at the dining room for breakfast. We got in the dining hall and the food smelt so good! Toast, cereal, yoghurt, fruit, the list goes on, they had everything and it was the best. We went for our first 2 activities and then came back for lunch.

Once again, we lined up, trying to resist the smell of mouth-watering baked potatoes. A couple more activities later and it was time for dinner. We had spaghetti with all sorts of salads, corn and garlic bread and for dessert, we had ice cream. It was one of the best dinners I’ve ever had and I will never forget the great food on camp.

On the first day at Campaspe downs, we went canoeing for our first activity. We partnered up and pushed our canoes into the water. We practiced up canoeing and teamwork skills. We played so many games. The first game was tag, second one was Zombie invasion. The last game was basketball. There were two teams and the goal was the boat where the instructor was. It was so much fun when Mrs. Taneja fell in, in the spirit of the game. Amazing camp overall!

On the 24th of February, we left CESC to go on a three day camp. At the camp, we did activities such as leap pf faith, possum glider, canoeing and many more. Possum glider was my favourite activity because everyone had to work together to hoist you up in the air. In our activity groups, you got the chance to make new friends. After possum glider, we were all really hyper and excited for the other activities. Everyone in our group was talking about the possum glider for the rest of the day. Camp was so much fun and I cannot wait for our next one.

My favourite memory was seeing Miss Aust do the Leap of Faith. She climbed up to the top, but it took so long for her to jump off. I think she got scared. We kept counting 1,2,3 jump, but she wouldn’t jump. Eventually she just did some weird fall. It was really funny.

Mrs Taneja going on the Flying Fox was really funny. She came flying in, lost her hat and then when she was landing, she lost both of her shoes! Hahah!

Year 8 News

Term One has been a positive start to 2020 for our Year 8 students.

As a year level, we have been focusing on the positives that happen every day within our classrooms and throughout the college. In our Home Groups, students have been discussing their hopes for the year and getting to know their Home Group teacher and peers. They have been competing throughout the term for RGAR points to earn the top spot in our RGAR challenge! With two weeks to go, the top spot is still up for grabs! Along with this, every Thursday our Home Groups have been taking part in challenges to help them come together as a group and achieve success. The ladder out the front of the Year 8 Office has been a focal point for viewing the last few weeks, as Home Groups move up and down based on their efforts. We have also started a wall to display all the positive behaviours occurring within our classrooms across the year level.

As a team, we are looking forward to continuing the positive start that our Year 8s have made to 2020 and seeing how they continue to grow over the course of the year.

Regards,

Mr Leslie
